
I stared in wonder
as the sky swallowed trees whole
starting at the roots
before working its way up.
The birds didn’t mind either.

Written for Colleen’s 2019 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 145 #PhotoPrompt using the photo above (duh). A Tanka follows the 5/7/5/7/7 syllable structure and is written in the first person.
Love this. I’m just now learning about Tanka and different forms of poetry, but from what I see, this is a perfect Tanka for the picture!
