What monsters creep
on broken ice, cracks
beneath the weight of overlarge
beasts,
frigid footfalls frozen
in the night?
Is it the chill
or fear that has me
clattering,
clamoring
for warmth and home,
hounded by unseen glaciers,
winter’s snowy persistence
tapping my shoulder.

Just today, I watched a glacier calving- it was scary and spectacular. Your poem reminds me of it. Well done!

Huh. I have been busy traveling with work the last two weeks so I admit to falling behind. I do try to comment, though I think you may beat me to it most days 🙂

Winter is persistent, indeed. I envisioned a trapper out checking his traps, eager to get back to his fireplace and coffee pot.

Another brilliant poem–this is my fave pick: “hounded by unseen glaciers”…it’s a wonderful phrase that could easily, metaphorically describe my fears. Evocative–if I get/write a poem from that phrase, I’ll credit and link to you, if you’d permit.

Great use of alliteration in ‘frigid footfalls frozen in the night’, Phillip. Which conveys chill and shiver, and I love the final lines.

Winter tapped our shoulder all too quickly in my world this year. One week it was beautiful autumn colors, the next a snow-tipped wonderland. Brrr Nice write!
