The siren

The siren sang out —
over the din
of normalcy that drones
with a low hum
just loud enough
to disappear
into background noise —
alerting me to her existence.

The melody (swelling
with intensity
before ebbing only to rise
again)
bewitched me. I fell
into a trance
enthralled by the song
— and the source.

She beguiles me
still — familiarity of the tune
never dulls
the rapture I feel
with each note.
I’ll listen
to no other song
again.
